Its founder, Martin Bürki, created his independent company in 1995 with individual products for eye surgery.

From 1998, after the development of a new concept for cataract surgery by separating the aspiration and irrigation flows during phacoemulsification, the company rapidly focuses on the first generations of reusable irrigation and aspiration (I/A) handpieces originally made from aluminum. The first single-use products were launched in 2004.

Today, Bürki is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Bimanual System Disposable Irrigation Aspiration 22G and 23G.
