Now part of the Bausch + Lomb portfolio, ELIOS™ (Excimer Laser Intraocular System) technology marks a new chapter in glaucoma management. It delivers precise, minimally invasive laser treatment to safely lower intraocular pressure—without implants or major tissue disruption.

ELIOS™ is a laser-based, implant-free surgical technique designed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by enhancing the eye’s natural drainage system. It uses a cold excimer laser to create 10 microchannels in the trabecular meshwork, restoring aqueous outflow via Schlemm’s canal—without damaging surrounding tissues.

Why ELIOS™?

  • No implants: Preserves the eye’s anatomy and simplifies the procedure.
  • Minimally invasive: Quick, low-risk, and easily combined with cataract surgery.
  • Clinically validated: 8-year follow-up studies show an average IOP reduction from 19.3 to 15.4 mmHg, with 80% of patients medication-free after one year.
  • Low complication rate: No serious intra- or postoperative events reported and minimal need for additional surgeries.

With glaucoma often coexisting with cataracts—impacting up to 20% of cataract patients—ELIOS™ is an ideal solution during combined cataract and glaucoma procedures. This single-session approach reduces patient burden, surgical risk, and long-term medication dependency.

🌍 ELIOS™ is part of the International Glaucoma Surgical Registry (IGSR), helping surgeons track long-term outcomes and contribute to global glaucoma research efforts.

We invite ophthalmologists across Belgium to discover how ELIOS™ can enhance your surgical offering and improve outcomes for your glaucoma patients.
